eNews Alumni Spotlight highlights alumni who give back to Frostburg in some way – time, talent, treasure or any combination. This edition of eNews features retired music teacher Donna Moxley Isaacs ’70.

Current City: Damascus, Md. I have lived on the same road all of my life except four years while my husband, Skip, was in the Coast Guard. We built a house on the family farm.

Current Occupation: Retired after 32 years as a music teacher, most in Frederick County, Md. My first years of teaching were in Hawaii in an elementary school that had never had a music teacher. I had a beat-up piano and 30 ukuleles. I taught 30 years in Frederick, Md. As a music teacher, I got to meet all of the children and enjoyed preparing musicals. I often see a former student, and they tell me they remember the musical they were in and a part they played. I have had some former students go on to major in music or theatre.

Why do you give back (time, talent and/or treasure) to FSU?

I like to give back to FSU to the Music Department and Scholarship Fund for Alpha Xi Delta. I spent many hours in the Music Department in the bottom of Compton Hall taking classes and using the practice rooms. Joining Alpha Xi Delta Sorority in my sophomore year was one of the best decisions I have made. I am still very active in our Chesapeake Alumnae group and have many lasting friendships from this organization. Many of us travel together and have shared many life experiences.

What is your favorite memory of your time as a Frostburg student?

The Homecoming parade through Frostburg. While there, we built beautiful floats, and years later as alumnae, we would always have a convertible in the parade. It was great coming together and celebrating FSU.

What is a cause dear to your heart?

The National Christian Choir. My husband and I sang with this group for 11 years and then I was director of the Children’s Choir for seven years. We are still strong supporters.

Favorite TV show

Young Sheldon and Gilmore Girls

Favorite comfort food?

Turkey and dressing

Favorite vacation spot?

Tahiti was a favorite cruise but love Hawaii. There are so many beautiful places in the world it is hard to choose only one.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

I think I would have liked to be an elementary school guidance counselor. I enjoy listening to children. They always have so much to tell, and they like to have someone take time to listen to them.
