NGC205, the largest of several companion galaxies to M31, lying 35' northwest of the M31 nucleus. Messier may have been the first to see NGC205, in the year 1773, though it was never entered in his famous catalog. One of the closest examples of an elliptical galaxy, the other closest example being M32, another companion galaxy to M31.
