Adventure Sports Management

Frostburg State University and Garrett College have teamed up to bring you this innovative bachelor’s degree program that launches you into the world of outdoor recreation. Demand is rising for outdoor adventure experts who are not just great at what they do, but are also proven leaders and managers. This collaborative Adventure Sports Management program covers both fields, developing your skills with experiential lessons in scenic Western Maryland while fostering your leadership abilities by putting you at the helm of the class.   • Earn your bachelor’s degree from Frostburg and earn an associate degree in adventure sports from Garrett College as well! This collaborative “2+2” model program gives you two years as a Garrett student and two years as a Frostburg student, adding up to four years of the best both universities can offer!
  • Experience a program founded on hands-on, real-world learning opportunities that brings you 400 hours of out-of-the-classroom adventures.

About the Program

  • Begin your adventure in the perfect place! Western Maryland is overflowing with unique regional resources, from outdoor amenities like white-water rivers, hiking and biking trails, premiere climbing opportunities, caves, ski slopes, backpacking and camping sites, residential camps and challenge courses to modern facilities like climbing walls, pools and the Adventure Equipment Center.
  • Travel around Western Maryland and enjoy experiential lessons galore thanks to a tourism-based economy, which means plenty of opportunities await both before and after graduation!
  • Connect with highly trained professionals in the adventure sports industry. Our colloquium course puts you in touch with business owners and adventure sports leaders every semester for your first two years, giving you valuable networking opportunities.
  • Open up opportunities for advanced job placement with a four-year degree that shows off your great abilities and potential.
  • Develop soft leadership skills like critical thinking, good communication and self-direction with our student leadership model. Third- and fourth-year students get to give back by acting as mentors, facilitators and assistant instructors for first- and second-year students, a valuable experience for anyone looking to excel in the adventure sports field.
