Etienne Charles

Etienne Charles

FRIDAY, April 13 | 7:30 PM
Manicur Assembly Hall, Lane University Center

Hailed by Jazz Times as “a daring improviser who delivers with heart-rending lyricism,” Etienne Charles cuts across musical boundaries in the most appealing of ways. “Jazz is creole music,” says Charles, “I come from a fusion of rhythms, a fusion of cultures.” With youthful, pulsating vitality, he taps into the Afro-Caribbean background of his Trinidadian upbringing and plumbs the musical depths of the islands, from calypso to Haitian voodoo music. Alongside a masterful band of jazz musicians on piano, alto saxophone, guitar, upright bass and percussion, Charles is certain to deliver a high-energy show.
