Taking a "Byte" Out of Tuition

For Valerie C. Ehimhen ‘17, the path to becoming a technical program manager at Google started in the classrooms at Frostburg State University. Now, she is paving the way for the next generation of tech innovators to follow in her footsteps by establishing the Valerie C. Ehimhen Computer Science Scholarship.

Since earning her degree, Ehimhen has built an impressive career with a commitment to expanding access to education and technology. Her work at Google has included impactful projects in systems engineering and Quantum AI, and she consistently advocates initiatives that bridge technical innovation with global impact. Most notably, Ehimhen has led efforts to reimagine computer science education across Africa, but she is not losing sight of her roots and is also focusing on helping those at her alma mater.

“My time in the Computer Science program at FSU laid the groundwork for my career, and it's a privilege to give back to the community that gave me so much. Through this scholarship, I hope to ease the financial burden for brilliant tech students and help foster a more diverse and inclusive future for the technology industry.”

A firm believer in the power of representation and academic excellence within the tech industry, she looks forward to seeing how the fund will benefit FSU students. “My ultimate goal is to empower the next generation of innovators to break barriers, and I can't wait to see the impact they will make,” Ehimhen said.
