Retirement Spotlight
Dr. Johnston "Jay" Hegeman '73/M'81
Bobcat Hall of Fame member, Dr. Jay Hegeman '73/M'81, served FSU in a variety of roles and positions, from grounds crew to Interim Vice President of Student Affairs. He made lasting contributions to student success, including instrumental roles in CAAR, the TRIO programs, and the PASS and DSS offices (together now as Accessibility and Learning). FSU achieved its highest fall-to-fall retention rates under his leadership. Jay also served the men’s soccer team for 27 years, as head coach for 16 years and as assistant for 11 years, and he brought recycling to our campus. One of his most lasting contributions to FSU has been his commitment and drive to enhance the role of staff governance at FSU.
"I have been blessed to work in multiple roles at FSU for the majority of my professional career. I made deep connections with staff, faculty, and students that will last for a lifetime," said Hegeman. "Any successes I may have made are attributable to having great colleagues. A particular shoutout to my classmates, teammates, and soccer players. I am thankful for the education and opportunities that Frostburg State College and University afforded me since 1969."
