Wagoner Named Head Football Coach
Eric Wagoner has been named as the 14th head coach in the Frostburg’s football program history and the second since the Bobcats joined NCAA Division II.
“I am extremely excited and humbled to be the next head football coach at Frostburg State University," said Wagoner. "Frostburg State University is a top academic and athletic institution, and the football program has a long and rich history. I look forward to upholding and continuing this legacy and cannot wait to get to work.”
“I’m very pleased to have Eric Wagoner assume the head coaching responsibilities. He's well respected by our student-athletes and knows the keys to our success here at Frostburg State,” said President Nowaczyk. “I look forward to the mark of success Eric will help us achieve in the upcoming years.”
Wagoner brings 15 years of coaching experience to Frostburg, including spending the previous two seasons as the team's defensive coordinator. Over that span, FSU has a record of 13-2 overall and won a share of the MEC conference title this past season. The defense only gave up 16.36 points per game in 2021, good enough for 16th in all of Division II. The defensive group also led the country in total sacks (53), sacks per game (4.8), tackles for loss per game (11) and were second in total TFLs (121).
Before coming to Frostburg, Wagoner was a part of NAIA affiliate University of Saint Francis staff for nearly 13 years. In 2016, he was named the Football Scoop NAIA Coordinator of the Year.
