Reception Honors Edge and Lorian Deuel
New Scholarship Established

When Frostburg legend and former FSU Director of Admissions Edgerton Deuel visited the campus in April, the University Advancement Office hosted a reception to announce a newly created scholarship established in his and his late wife’s names.
Edge, who now resides in Annapolis, first came to the Frostburg campus in 1969 and remained for more than 30 years until his retirement. He recently returned to Western Maryland to hold a community memorial service for his wife, Lorian, a former Allegany County educator, who passed away in February.
The on-campus reception drew members of the Deuel family and Edge’s old colleagues and friends who caught up, reminisced and celebrated with light tears and lots of laughs.
The Deuel family was out in force to celebrate the announcement of the newly created Edgerton and Lorian Deuel Scholarship.
“Their mother, my wife and your friend, Lorian, is excited to know that this is happening because this is the kind of thing she would be one hundred percent behind,” Edge told the assembled group about the new scholarship. “A – it has nothing to do with her, B – it will reach out and help other people and C – it’s promoting and developing more education to help more people – which is the kind of gal she was.”
He went on to thank his family for starting the scholarship, which will benefit first-generation college students. “Without family, you don’t have much. And I and Lorian have been blessed with just a great family. Annoying? Sometimes. But a great family.”
