Bobcat Giving Day Continues to Be a Fundraising Success
BY MIA CROSS M'03
Held on March 6 and 7, Frostburg State University’s third annual Bobcat Giving Day, a 24-hour online fundraising event, raised a total of $203,876, surpassing last year’s total by nearly $36,000. The campaign also engaged 1,869 donors who contributed to their favorite FSU fund.
“We are thrilled with the success of our third Giving Day,” said Stephanie Loar, annual giving specialist. “We were very hopeful that we would have an increase in the total amount raised, but it has exceeded our expectations to surpass the total by nearly $36,000! Bobcat Giving Day has become a day that alumni, faculty and staff, students and Bobcat fans look forward to each year.”
The FSU Foundation Board of Directors once again donated a $10,000 prize to the fund with the most donors (not dollars) during the event and a $5,000 prize for the fund coming in second place. New this year was the addition of a $1,000 third-place prize from the former FSU Foundation Board members. FSU’s Swimming repeated as the winning fund with 299 donors, followed by Softball with 203 donors and the Children’s Literature Centre with 166 donors.
FSU Swimming repeated as the fund with the most donors (299) earning them the $10,000 prize.
“The team is thrilled to have done so well on Giving Day yet again,” said head men’s and women’s swim coach, Matt Brinton. “This year was similar to last, a tight race all the way to the finish. Our current team, parents, family and alumni really came together to make this day a huge success.” Brinton continued, “We love getting to share our message through social media and seeing the enthusiastic support come right back to us. We would like to thank all our supporters once again for being part of our family and continuing to drive our team to the top. GO BOBCATS!”
Another new incentive this year was the President and Leadership Challenge. Those funds within each of FSU’s three colleges placing first and second in the number of donors earned $750 and $300, respectively. Coming in first in the College of Business, Engineering, and Computational and Mathematical Sciences was the FSU CANOE Fund with 26 donors followed by the G. Brad Rinard Memorial Fund with 16 donors.
In the College of Education and Health and Natural Sciences, the Geography Development Fund placed first with 25 donors and the Chemistry Development Fund came in second with 21 donors. Finally, in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social and Behavioral Sciences, the Friends of Music at Frostburg had 43 donors and won the $750 and the Psychology Development Fund took home $300 with 12 donors.
The FSU softball team placed second with 203 donors earning them a $5,000 prize.
There was a tie for first place in the Cross-College Fund Challenge. The Fishing Club and the STEM Summit each walked away from Giving Day with an extra $525, garnering 10 donors for both funds.
“It was wonderful to have the academic departments involved and be able to have the opportunity to win more money for their funds,” said Loar. “Every gift truly makes a difference for FSU students.”
Next year’s Bobcat Giving Day has been set for April 1, 2025, and will be another opportunity for alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and Bobcat fans around the world to come together to make a difference for FSU.
The Children’s Literature Centre took home 3rd place with 166 donors winning the $1,000 prize.
