Forging Communities: Somerset Trust Bank
Pride in Their People and Pride in Their Place
Somerset Trust Bank is “the new biz on the block” in Frostburg, recently celebrating its one-year anniversary on the city’s Main Street. And the team at the financial institution said they truly feel appreciated by the city and Frostburg State University.
“We could not feel more welcomed here,” said Allison Hoffman, vice president for marketing and customer experience officer at Somerset Trust.
One of the first orders of business for Somerset Trust is to get involved in their new communities. It’s a priority that the banking institution finds vital to community relations, according to Hoffman.
“To us, it is essential to partner with all facets of our communities – individuals, organizations and businesses. If the community is growing and thriving, then so will we,” she said. “We strive to get to know our customers on an individual level, and we work to provide helpful resources to the businesses that are serving the community. It has to happen on all levels.”
That involvement has included “some very fun town traditions” and partnering with FSU’s Athletic Program. Hoffman said the relationship with the University not only includes serving the banking needs of the Frostburg community, but also employing several FSU alumni and current students.
“Making an investment in the school reinforces the pride we have in our people and in the place we have chosen to make a home,” Hoffman added. “The partnership with FSU Athletics, specifically, provides us with an opportunity to interact with the University and the students in fun and dynamic ways – being a part of the exciting events on campus throughout the year.”
Hoffman said the bank is looking to expand partnerships with the University in more ways in the future, including the arts, and establishing financial literacy programs.
“FSU is home to future community leaders, and we welcome any opportunity to engage and learn from them,” she added. “We dedicate significant resources to financial education and feel that college students are a prime audience for our programs.”
