FSU Ranked by National Publications

The Washington Monthly

In its annual College Guide and Rankings, The Washington Monthly ranked Frostburg State first among public universities in Maryland, ninth in the category of service and 44th in the country overall in its “Master’s Level Colleges and Universities” category. FSU was also ranked 91st in the Northeast in the “Best Bang for the Buck” category.

The College Guide is included in the September/October 2021 issue of Washington Monthly, a bimonthly nonprofit magazine that covers United States politics and government.

In its list of master’s level colleges and universities, the publication includes 616 institutions that award a significant number of master’s degrees but few or no doctoral degrees. The best bang for the buck listing includes schools where students of modest means get the most for their money.

Chronicle of Higher Education

In a new report from the Chronicle of Higher Education (“Recruiting and Retaining Students in a Challenging Market”), which listed the highest graduation rates of Black students among public master’s universities nationwide, Frostburg came in 24th and was the only Maryland university to make the top 25 list. “I would like to see us set a goal to be in the top 10 on this list by improving our graduation for that group by at least 9 percentage points,” said President Nowaczyk.
