Women's Soccer Earns First-Ever Division II NCAA Tournament Bid, Multiple Recognitions
The Frostburg State women’s soccer team became the school’s first-ever program selection to an NCAA Tournament at the Division II level, earning the second seed in the Atlantic Region.
The Bobcats traveled to Erie, Pa. to face off against No. 7 seed Kutztown on Friday, November 11, 2022. FSU fell to Kutztown 3-0 in the matchup.

The Bobcats season ended at 18-2-2. This season’s 18 wins tied a program record for victories in a single season, as Bilger also tied the goalkeeping single season record for wins with 16 shutouts with seven. It also was one of the best defensive seasons in program history, as the 13 goals allowed are tied for the third fewest in a single season and the 0.59 goals against average is tied for fourth all-time in school history.
The team also earned a 15th Straight Ethics and Sportsmanship Award. The award recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow cards or red cards shown by referees throughout the season. The distinction of each level (platinum, gold, silver, and bronze) is based on the number of cards accumulated divided by the number of games played.
FSU received just four yellow cards and no red cards across 22 games played, qualifying for the silver level, which is given for 11-30% of matches played per card received, marking it the 15th consecutive team that the team has received at least one of the levels.
The women’s soccer team also had three players selected to the 2022 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Atlantic Region Team, with Abbey Dennis and Toni Fiocco-Mizer earning First Team honors, while Hannah Thompson earned a place on the Second Team.
Dennis was the Mountain East Co-Defender of the Year on her way to earning First Team All-MEC honors, helping lead one of the top defenses in the country with 0.59 goals against average and 15 shutouts. She was also named a College Sport Communicators First Team Academic All-American, becoming the sixth player in program history to earn the honor, as well as a United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American.
Fiocco-Mizer was a Second Team All-MEC selection, having finished the season tied for third in the conference in goals (14) and points (33), while leading all of Division II in game-winning goals.
Thompson joined Dennis on the All-MEC First Team, as she added three goals and an assist from her defensive midfield position. The junior was responsible for protecting the back three and aided in the teams outstanding defensive record.
