Music Memories

Editor’s note: The article in our last issue, “Before They Were Music Superstars, They Performed at Frostburg,” brought back a lot of memories for alumni and sparked some fun discussions on social media. Here are a couple more stories we thought you would like.

Great article by Ty DeMartino about musicians who performed at Frostburg before they made it big. I attended Frostburg from 1967 to 1971. Either my freshman or sophomore year, I had a friend on the committee to book talent for Homecoming and other concert events. I’ll never forget we could have had The Doors for $2,000, but my friend got voted down. Instead, we got to see Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels perform (“perform” is a stretch as rumor had it the band went back to their hotel between shows and got wasted!)

Also got to see Chuck Berry perform, but this was well after he had made it big.

I will always remember the concert I attended when I went to Frostburg 1964-1968 of Sonny and Cher. She was wearing her Native American outfit, and he did all of the talking. I’m not sure of the year but I think it was in 1966.
