In Memoriam

Lee Fielder, who died June 30, 2021, shared his expertise as CEO of Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. with FSU students following his retirement from that post, teaching Introduction to Business from 2001 to 2014. He was also mayor of the city of Cumberland from 2000 to 2010. The value of having a Fortune 500 CEO as an instructor in the College was not lost on his colleagues. “Lee Fiedler embodied the best intersection of business acumen and civic and social consciousness – lessons he passionately imparted to his students,” said Dr. Sudhir Singh, dean of the College of Business. Another College of Business colleague, Dr. Mike Monahan ’91, said, “Despite his vast experience, responsibility and accomplishments, Lee was approachable and always made time to listen to and counsel his students.”

The Honorable Dr. Henry B. “Hank” Heller ’64 died on Feb.17, 2021.  For 24 years, Heller represented District19 in Montgomery County in the Maryland House of Delegates. He was also a career educator and coach with Montgomery County Public Schools and president of the Montgomery County Education Association. In the General Assembly, Heller served on the Ways and Means and Appropriations committees, with a particular focus on education policy. He also supported a number of environmental initiatives. Heller received FSU’s Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award in1989 and was one of the alumni honored with the creation of the Sigma Tau Gamma scholarship. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Sweeney Heller ’64, and two sons.
