Track to Be Named in Honor of Coaches Lewis and Hircock

In November 2020, the Department of Athletics, along with members of the Bobcat Hall of Fame, made plans to recognize longtime Track & Field coaches Bob Lewis and Charlie Hircock by naming the track in their honor. Bobcat alums from around the nation are working to raise the funds necessary to honor these great coaches and mentors.

“They have helped students become better athletes, taught athletes how to become leaders, and the importance of lifelong relationships.” – Barry Holder ’84.

“Coaches Lewis and Hircock have given over 75 years to Frostburg State and its athletes. We hope that we can give a little something back to them.” – Carlos Acker ’86.

“Coach Lewis made everyone who ran for him feel special because he cared about them. He made me believe that if I put my mind to it and put in the work, I could do it.” – Christine Chappell Reid ’94.

More than $216,000 has been raised so far toward the $350,000 goal. One way donors can leave their “mark” is to sponsor a brick for $1,000 with the name of the donor’s choice engraved on it. The bricks will fill the plaza surrounding the monument.

Funds will go directly to renovating the track, upgrading its surface and creating a home for University, local and regional track meets for years to come.
