Maj. Gen. Robert L. Edmonson II Given Honorary Doctorate

Frostburg presented Maj. Gen. Robert L. Edmonson II ’90 with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at its 160th commencement ceremony on May 19.

Edmonson was recently appointed as the 17th commander of the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command and senior commander for Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, responsible for enabling the Army’s warfighting readiness by providing sustainable global command, control, communications, computers, cyber, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, or C5ISR, and medical materiel support.

Edmonson addressed the graduates after receiving his honor: “It was at this university that I learned the value of preparation and opportunity. It was at this institution that I learned about the diversity of thought by meeting people who didn’t look like me, who didn’t talk like me. It was at this institution that I learned to overcome adversity through the ROTC program, and of course, it was at this institution that I proposed to my wife 31 years ago.”

Edmonson graduated from FSU with a business marketing degree. On campus, he played football, participated in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant from FSU’s ROTC program.
