Crawford Honored With Pinnacle Award

The FSU Foundation, Inc., has honored Quincy Crawford 65 with the Pinnacle Award, its highest honor, in recognition of the decades of counsel and spirit he has offered to the FSU Foundation and his alma mater.

Crawford, only the 11th person to receive the Pinnacle Award in the Foundation’s history, is a 16-year member of the FSU Foundation Board of Directors, which he served as vice president and president, and he chaired the Staking Our Claim Campaign Steering Committee.

The award was presented at this year’s Sloop Institute for Excellence in Leadership, a program Crawford helped to found and supports financially.

“It’s not the award that excites me this evening,” Crawford said to the students gathered for the 2022 Sloop Institute. “You excite me this evening – students and what you represent. Look at what I see in this room: The best and the brightest. Hard-working, good students, looking to achieve. Taking a role in leadership. … You represent what we dreamed about and wanted to create.”

Crawford and his wife, Genie Zorn Crawford 67, endowed the Quincy Crawford Men’s Basketball Scholarship and the Quincy and Eugenia Crawford Scholarship. They have also supported many other funds, including the Dr. Richard C. Sloop Student Leadership Fund. Crawford was previously named the College of Business Alumnus of the Year in 2004 and received the FSU Alumni Achievement Award in 2009.

Crawford has also offered his time to the FSU College of Business Advisory Board and the University System of Maryland Foundation Board.

“Although the Pinnacle Award is not the first award he has received from his alma mater, … we certainly hope that he will cherish this award,” said FSUF Vice President Patrick Friel ’88 in making the presentation. “We are thrilled to be able to award it to him at the Sloop Banquet since this initiative is something he has supported from its inception.”

The Pinnacle Award recognizes those who have made significant contributions of time, talent or treasure in support of the educational mission of Frostburg State University through FSUF.
