Dr. Michael Mathias Named Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Dr. Michael B. Mathias has been named dean of Frostburg State University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Dr. Mathias was named interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on June 1, 2022. He previously served as interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.

Mathias has worked at Frostburg State University for 14 years. He is an active member of the Society for College and University Planning and participated in developing FSU's Strategic Plan for 2018-2023. Working with the directors of the University Honors Program, as well as the Center for International Education, Mathias helped to develop a new five-year strategic plan for both areas. Mathias also worked with the Academic Success Network (ASN) and improved the relationship between Academic Affairs and the student support units of ASN.

As interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, Mathias led the University's academic response during the pandemic. He also helped create and develop academic programs such as Life-Cycle Facilities Management and Small Business Management. He was also responsible for collaborating with Allegany College of Maryland and Garrett College, resulting in 25 academic program articulation agreements.

Mike has provided leadership in many roles here at FSU, and I know he will continue to lead and serve the mission and vision of both FSU and CLAS," said Dr. Ronald Nowaczyk, FSU president.
