Recent Dedications
Rinard Room
On Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, Room 282 in the Catherine R. Gira Center for Communication and Information Technology was dedicated in recognition of Dr. George Brad Rinard's, professor emeritus, remarkable contributions to the Department of Computer Science and Information Technologies. Dr. Rinard served FSU from 1988-2022. Dr. Mike Flinn '94/M'02 and his campus colleagues donated funds in his memory to name this student and faculty breakout room.
Strong Foundation
The Hattie M. Strong Foundation provides scholarship support to students training to be teachers who portray the value of work, dedication, and strength of character. To date, $345,000 has been awarded to deserving FSU students. In honor of their generosity, a space was dedicated in the Education and Health Sciences Center.
CLC Special Collections Room
Sarah Grace Guthrie '06 was a passionate educator from Garrett County, Md. In memory of Sarah, her family and friends made gifts in support of the Children's Literature Centre. The University named the Special Collections Room for her.
Johnson Chemistry Lab
In 2023, Larry Johnson '86 donated lab equipment to the FSU Chemistry Department. To recognize his generosity, the University named the General Chemistry Lab in Compton Hall in his honor. Larry and Donna's daughter, Dr. Katie Johnson Gares '11 is a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry and Physics.
Loats Foundation
The Loats Foundation provides scholarship support to students from Frederick County, Md., with priority to those who are orphans or have been in foster care. To date, 448 scholarship awards, totaling over $488,000 have been awarded, since 1991. In honor of their generosity, a space was dedicated in the Education and Health Sciences Center.
Defensive Staff Room Dedication, in Honor of Rubin Stevenson
Rubin Stevenson, senior associate athletic director for Internal Operations, has served Frostburg State University for nearly 30 years. In 2023, a group of alumni (primarily former football players) joined efforts to raise funds in honor of Stevenson to name the Defensive Staff Room in the FSU Football Suite in the Cordts PE Center. The funding will support the FSU Football program.
