Dr. Artie L. Travis retired in January after five years as the vice president for Student Affairs. During his tenure at FSU he was responsible for supervising Career Services, the Student Health Center, the Student Counseling Center, Residential Life and Housing, New Student Orientation, leadership programs, student conduct, the Lane University Center, student actvities, substance abuse programs, civic engagement, the Center for DEI, Veterans Services, cultural events programs and Greek Life. 

"Frostburg has always been more than just a university - it is a family, a place where students support one another, where challenges are met with courage and where dreams take flight," said Travis. "The Frostburg campus community inspired me every day with their passion, perseverance and commitment to making this campus and the world a better place."

Prior to his arrival at FSU, Travis held senior leadership positions at several other schools. He also served on active duty for two years in the U.S. Army as the Communications NCOIC and Air Traffic Advisor at the Heliport in Nelligan, Germany, attached to the 421st Medical Evacuation Ambulance Comany. Travis was also recently inducted into the Danville Illinois High School Hall of Fame, an honor he was especially proud of. 

In a parting message to the FSU campus community, Travis said, "I encourage you to embrace the opportunities before you, lift each other up, and never stop striving for excellence. Carry forward the values of kindness, integrity, and leadership that make this University special."
