The Crawley Legacy
On Sat., Nov. 9, 2024, members of the FSU community joined together to honor Jim and Nancy Crawley M'70 and the impact they had on faculty, staff, alumni and students. The group was joined by their son Jim and his wife Martha. Guests also attended the Jim Crawley Tip-Off Classic.
Nancy passed away on July 4, 2024, and Jim passed away only a few weeks later on July 31, 2024. Both were emeritus faculty members.
Jim began his tenure at FSU in 1968 where he held the positions of athletic director, head football coach, head men's and head women's basketball coach and professor in the Department of Physical Education. He retired from FSU in 2004. Crawley was inducted into the Bobcat Hall of Fame in 1997 as the 103rd inductee. At the time of his induction, he had compiled a record of 346-148 in 19 years as the women's head basketball coach, which ranks him at the top ten in Division III. Under Crawley's leadership as the head football coach, FSU achieved its first regional and national recognition. The Bobcat's record of 7-1 in 1970 was Frostburg's best-ever until 1989. Crawley also coached 15 members of the Bobcat Hall of Fame.
Nancy was a coach and assistant professor in the Department of Physical Education. She started at FSU in 1968 and retired in 1998. In 1999, she was the 112th inductee into the Hall of Fame as a women’s tennis and volleyball coach. Crawley started the women’s tennis program and served as the coach for 25 years. She was the head volleyball coach for two years, including the 1997 season which ranks as one of the greatest athletic seasons in FSU history. Crawley also served as an assistant women’s basketball coach for seven years.
