Helping Those in Need

basket donations

Last November, the Frostburg State University community stepped up big for their friends and neighbors by donating a total of 96 Thanksgiving baskets weighing 3,420.53 pounds and $2,066 in gift cards. Of the 96 baskets, 78 of them were delivered directly to homes while the others were donated to the Western Maryland Food Bank for distribution to local families.

FSU's PAWS Pantry encourages everyone to make a difference. "One gentleman called the food bank and told them that FSU students delivering a basket to him brought back hope into his life," said Ashley Daniels '11, associate director of student life at FSU.

Through the Sponsor-A-Family Program, many organizations and individuals volunteered their time, hard work and dedication to making and delivering these baskets to area families.

"An extra special thank you goes out to those who volunteered their time - we could never manage delivering this many baskets to families without our volunteers," said Daniels. Volunteers represented Alpha Phi Omega, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., FSU's men's lacrosse team, Pi Lambda Phi and the FSU Student Government Association.

The Office of Student Life reminds FSU students to make a difference in their communities by following the values of engagement, leadership and service.
