Brothers Dean and Thomas are told they are old enough to stay home alone for three nights while their parents are away. Thomas, the rule bender, persuades his older brother, Dean, to snoop on their strange neighbor, old Mr. Claxton. Dean and Thomas must be exceptionally careful because their neighbor is also a bird watcher and very alert. They feel that this man has something to hide. Will they be the ones to uncover a dark secret? Their adventure teaches the boys to trust their instincts and to work together when they run into trouble.

To conceal his shady financial dealings, the city's mayor assembles and charges a discreet, unorthodox investigative team of a parks and rec worker, a city receptionist and an Elvis look-alike to find and rescue Blinky before the rapidly approaching full moon. The chase leads the team and their zany helpers through some of Florida's beautiful, original tourist attractions. Can they save Blinky in time?
