The Thomas and Dean Mysteries
Tiffany Parrish Youngblood ’09
These books for children focus on brothers Dean and Thomas and explore the mysterious happenings in their world.
The Dirt on Mr. Claxton
Brothers Dean and Thomas are told they are old enough to stay home alone for three nights while their parents are away. Thomas, the rule bender, persuades his older brother, Dean, to snoop on their strange neighbor, old Mr. Claxton. Dean and Thomas must be exceptionally careful because their neighbor is also a bird watcher and very alert. They feel that this man has something to hide. Will they be the ones to uncover a dark secret? Their adventure teaches the boys to trust their instincts and to work together when they run into trouble.
A Rational Explanation
Thomas and Dean are back with a new mystery to solve. This time, the mystery is in their own home. Thomas is plagued with strange experiences when he is alone. He decides that he must confide in his older brother, Dean, and is surprised when Dean recalls an unexplainable event of his own. Together, with the help of friends, the boys set out to get to the bottom of what is happening to them. But could these haunting experiences have a deeper meaning than anyone realizes?
Belly-Up
Drew Snell ’77
The city of Pondview, Fla., is facing financial ruin when Blinky, a large one-eyed luminescent alligator, is kidnapped. The city depends on the thousands of tourists who gather every full moon to see Blinky’s hide glow in the moonlight. To conceal his shady financial dealings, the city's mayor assembles and charges a discreet, unorthodox investigative team of a parks and rec worker, a city receptionist and an Elvis look-alike to find and rescue Blinky before the rapidly approaching full moon. The chase leads the team and their zany helpers through some of Florida's beautiful, original tourist attractions. Can they save Blinky in time?
