2023 Bobcat Hall of Fame Inductees

The Frostburg State University Department of Athletics and the Office of Alumni Relations has announced that six former student-athletes and one former head coach will be inducted into the Bobcat Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2023. The annual dinner and celebration will be held on Friday, October 6 as part of Homecomeing Weekend.

 

DeLane Fitzgerald, the 225th inductee, was the head coach for the Bobcat Football team for eight years. He is the winningest coach in program history, with the most wins and highest winning percentage. Fitzgerald was named conference Coach of the Year three times while leading the Bobcats, as the team also made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2017 and 2018. Eight All-American awards were bestowed on athletes under his direction. He won the final three Regents cup games played to keep the trophy in Frostburg.

Fran Flott

Fran Flott '77, the 226th inductee, was a great defender for the Bobcat Field Hockey program. She was named Outstanding Player three times in her career, along with earning Baltimore College Field Hockey Association First Team honors on three occasions. Flott was also named Frostburg State Female Athlete of the Year in 1976.

Emily Furr '11/M'13, the 227th inductee, was a standout performer for the Track & Field program, becoming an All-American in the high jump and holding multiple records for FSU. She won six Mason-Dixon Conference Championships in her events and was named All-Conference 16 times.

Michael Jones

Michael Jones '93, the 228th inductee, was one of the best athletes to play for the Bobcat football team. He is in the career top 10 for rushing and passing touchdowns. Jones is sixth all-time in total offense with 4,438 yards, making him one of only two players in history with more than 1,000 yards rushing and 3,000 yards passing.

Terence Killen '02, the 229th inductee, was a tremendous asset to the Men’s Tennis program, becoming the winningest player in Bobcat history with a 94-38 combined record. He holds the record for most singles and doubles wins in a career, and the most doubles and combined wins in a season. Killen has the best win-loss percentages in career singles, career doubles, career combined and season doubles. He was named Conference Player of the Year in 2002.

Brian McElhenny

Brian McElhenny '01, the 230th inductee, was one of the best defensive backs in Bobcat Football history, holding a share of the career interception record with 19 picks. In 1999, he recorded seven interceptions and 19 passes defended, being the second-best single-season marks in program history. McElhenny is a two-time First Team All-ACFC Defense selection and a three-time ACFC All-Academic member.

Lauren Russell '11, the 231st inductee, was a great offensive weapon for women’s soccer, ending her career first in assists (39), second in goals (64), and third in points (167). She helped lead the Bobcats to a 67-15-6 overall record in her four years, to go along with three ECAC Tournament berths, one NCAA Tournament berth and an AMCC Championship in 2009. Russell is a four-time all-conference selection and a two-time NSCAA All-Region honoree.
