Swim Team Members Dive Into Success
From Swimmers of the Year to Coach of the Year, the Bobcat Swimming program finished the season with several accolades. Head Coach Matt Brinton received Coach of the Year recognition for the men’s and women’s programs at FSU, leading each team to a conference championship in his first season at the helm. The men’s championship is the first in program history, while the women repeated as back-to-back MEC champions. The men’s and women’s programs completed undefeated regular season conference schedules while also being named CSCAA Scholar All-American Teams.
Sophomores Nate Canapp and Kendall Hooper were the Men’s and Women’s Swimmers of the Year. In addition, Gabriela Betancourt earned the Women’s Freshman of the Year. Canapp was the leading scorer at the GMAC/MEC Championships, securing three individual First Team All-MEC finishes to complement his three Second Team All-MEC honors. This is the second straight season Canapp has earned a major MEC award, having been named last season’s Men’s Freshman of the Year.

Both the women's and men's swimming programs finished the season with a conference championship.
Hooper was named the GMAC/MEC Championship Female Swimmer of the Meet this year despite not competing in an individual event on the final day, making her the first-ever Frostburg athlete to receive that honor. She also earned six First Team All-MEC honors this season, as she was the top MEC finisher in each race in which she competed. Additionally, Betancourt’s award marks the second straight season that a Bobcat was named Women’s Freshman of the Year. In her debut season, she was a member of three First Team All-MEC relay teams while also earning a pair of Honorable Mention All-MEC individual honors.
