Women’s Lacrosse Grabs First MEC Championship

Men’s Lacrosse Standout Earns Accolades

The Women’s Lacrosse team secured its first-ever Mountain East Conference Championship with a commanding 17-10 victory over two-time defending tournament champs Notre Dame College. This win ended the Bobcat’s title-winning season at 12-8, the program’s most wins since 1992. FSU also set new program records this season in goals scored (291), total points (407) and goals against average (8.53).

Frostburg freshman attacker Neila Haney was recognized as the league’s Offensive Player of the Year, was voted the MEC Freshman of the Year and earned the MVP of the tournament championship. She led the league in goals (61), assists (27), points (88) and draw controls (63) this season. Haney broke the program single season record in goals in a win against Davis and Elkins in the first round of the MEC tournament, while also leading the conference in goals and points per game.

The IWLCA named Haney to the Midwest Region Second Team, and while helping the Bobcats to the regular season conference championship, she went on to receive First Team All-MEC, MEC All-Freshman Team and both Offensive Player and Freshman Player of the Year for the conference.

Bobcat Head Coach Taylor Sindall also earned accolades for being recognized as the league’s Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season, leading the team to a 9-1 mark in MEC play and winning the MEC Regular Season title.

While the Women’s Lacrosse team had a stellar season, Men’s Lacrosse senior standout Jake Bowman added several accolades to his list of honors. He was named the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-Region Second Team and Honorable Mention All-American. This marks the second straight season that Bowman has been selected as an All-Region player.

Having already received USILA All-Region and First Team All-ECC honors, Bowman led FSU’s attack this season, finishing with a team-high 67 goals and a team-high 90 points, both of which led the East Coast Conference and broke the single season records for Frostburg. In addition to his scoring credentials, he dished out 23 assists, scooped up 39 ground balls and finished fourth in the ECC in shots (133) on his way to First Team All-Conference honors.
