New Foundation Board Members
The FSU Foundation, Inc., recently welcomed five new members to its Board of Directors.
Ken Coffey '77
Ken Coffey ’77 currently serves as the executive director of the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation, where he has worked since 2015. Before coming to South Carolina, Coffey was the vice president and chief development officer for Frederick Regional Health System in Maryland, serving in that capacity since 1987. Before entering healthcare, he had nearly 10 years of experience in county government, and in 1986, Coffey was a candidate for the Maryland House of Delegates in Frederick County’s District 4A. He earned his bachelor’s in political science from Frostburg State College in 1977 and his master’s in public administration from the University of Baltimore in 1980. Coffey is a member of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and past member of the Greenwood Rotary Club Board of Directors. He is also a member of the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy and the South Carolina Society for Hospital Fund Development and serves on the society’s Board of Directors. Over the years, Coffey has been involved in various fundraising efforts with the March of Dimes, Alzheimer’s Association, American Diabetes Association and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He and his wife Jan reside in Ninety Six, S.C., and have two children.
Col. Ron Forrester '67
Col. Ron Forrester ’67 is a retired senior military analyst who dedicated his 45- year career supporting the U.S. Department of Defense, serving in several capacities with increasing responsibility and status. He spent 26 years in the U.S. Air Force (USAF) as an active-duty officer. Forrester worked in ICBM missile operations and in space operation, had tours of duty as a detachment commander in Korea and as commander of the 3301st Space Training Squadron, establishing USAF’s Undergraduate Space Training Program. Forrester was chief of the Global Forces division in the Air Force Studies and Analyst Agency in the Pentagon and retired at the rank of colonel in 1993. As a civilian, he served as a senior systems analyst/project manager and then as director of Operations for Science Applications International Corporation in Tysons Corner, Va., before becoming a senior military analyst. In this role, Forrester supported the Multinational Interoperability Council on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon and supported the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Defense Information Assurance Program before his retirement in 2012. He graduated from Frostburg State College with a bachelor’s in secondary education, and he earned his master’s in public administration in 1976 from the University of Oklahoma. Forrester has been on the FSU Alumni Association Board of Directors for 18 years, serving two terms as president, and was a member of the FSU Foundation Board of Directors for 14 years.
Donald C. Fry '77
Donald C. Fry ’77 is the retired president and chief executive officer of the Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC), where he was responsible for advocating on behalf of the greater Baltimore region on issues related to economic growth, workforce development, job creation, infrastructure and transportation. He also previously served as the executive vice president and general counsel for GBC. Fry was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates and the Senate of Maryland, serving on several committees. He is adept at building programs to assist underserved communities, creating equal opportunities, providing civic and business leadership and motivating cross-functional collaboration to solve public issues. Fry was previously engaged in private law practice in Harford County, Md. He has served on several boards of directors throughout his career as well and has received multiple accolades and awards for his work. Fry earned his bachelor’s in political science, with a minor in business administration, in 1977 from Frostburg State University and his juris doctor in 1979 from the University of Baltimore School of Law. He is dedicated to building effective relationships and providing support to stakeholders, executive teams and boards of directors.
Michele L. Midgett Mutschler '98
Michele L. Midgett Mutschler ’98 is a senior acquisition advisor at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. She graduated from Frostburg State University in 1998, majoring in political science and justice studies and minoring in writing, and earned her master’s in organizational sciences, with a leadership coaching certificate, from the George Washington University in 2003. While attending Frostburg, Mutschler was active as a reporter and later news editor for The Bottom Line student newspaper, vice chair for the Student Alumni Ambassadors (SAA) and senator on the Student Government Association to name a few. She enjoyed conducting tours of campus for groups as intimate as two and as large as 50 on Open House days and was fortunate to spend a semester at FSU’s sister school, Mary Immaculate College, in Limerick, Ireland. Her love of the SAA program naturally led her to a position on the FSU Alumni Association Board of Directors for many years, where she served as governance chair and secretary. Currently, Mutschler enjoys volunteering with the Calvert Animal Welfare League and Mabel’s Orphaned Angels Rescue, an in-home-based cat and kitten fostering organization.
J. Stokes '09
J. Stokes ’09 is a native of Baltimore and Frostburg, Md. He earned a bachelor’s from Frostburg State University in 2009. While at Frostburg, Stokes was a very active member of the Greater Frostburg Community. He served on several organizations and boards, including the Student Government Association, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, African American Studies Society, Black Student Alliance, Greek Council and the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Beta Chapter. Most recently, Stokes served as a member of Frostburg State University’s Alumni Board of Directors. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy through the delayed entry program in 2009 as a mass communication specialist. While in the Navy, Stokes earned his master’s in administrative leadership from The University of Oklahoma and was commissioned through the Navy Chaplain Candidate Officer Program in February 2022.
