Bobcats Recognized in the Community

On Sunday, Sept. 24, several students and staff members from Frostburg State University were recognized during the anniversary service at Dickerson AME Church in Frostburg.The Rev. Sakima Romero-Chandler, senior pastor, officiated. Elder Sembly of the AME Conference Leadership was a guest minister.

The church was celebrating 188 years of service to the African American communities of Brownsville and Park Avenue. Recently, a historical marker was signed by Elder as the oldest church in Frostburg. 

During the service, two FSU students received scholarships. Ashlynn Cooper and Cierra Cooper were the recipients of support to continue their degrees at Frostburg State University, and Skai Shelton received a scholarship to continue her degree at Hood College. 

At the conclusion of the service, the following FSU staff members were recognized for their service:

  • Ms. Robin Wynder, Assistant Vice President and Senior Diversity Officer, received a service award for her long-time commitment to service at the church.
  • Dr. Traki L. Taylor, Provost, received a Trailblazer award for her role as the senior Academic Officer at FSU. 
  • Ms. Tara LaRue-Craze, administrative assistant in the Office of the Registrar, received a citation for her stewardship since joining the church community.
  • Dr. Artie Travis, Vice President for Student Affairs, received a citation for being a pioneering man of faith.
