Estelle Williamson

Friend of Children's Literature

A message from the Contributors

On October, 24, 2000, the Children's Literature Centre lost a dear friend, Estelle Williamson. For over 20 years she graciously volunteered her time and helped initiate the first Spring Festival of Children's Literature.

She was a gift small group presenter, an active leader in conference proceedings and an invaluable counselor. Her wisdom, guidance and vision help shape the many activities of the Children's Literature Centre.

A graduate of Towson University in 1955 with a bachelor's degree, she taught first grade in Montgomery County from 1965 to 1971. From 1971 to 1990, she was a media specialist with the Maryland State Department of Education.

In addition to her work at Frostburg, she was a long-time volunteer at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, where she established the "Love Life Tour" for volunteers a Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospitals. She was also one of the founders and president of the Friends of the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Baltimore.

She was a delightful, dynamic and compassionate person who will always be known for her ability to bring people together to accomplish a common goal.
