Marion L Shaw Hardeman Peterman, Class of 1949 - Salutatorian

Passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2019 in Wildomar, California; she was born on December 28, 1927 in Frostburg, Maryland to the late Howard and Josephine (Waddell) Shaw.

Marion graduated from Central High School in Lonaconing, Maryland in 1945 and went on to graduate from Frostburg State Teachers College in 1949 as salutatorian.

Marion served as an elementary school teacher for at least two years in Maryland. This was interrupted by tuberculosis from late 1949 until mid-1953. After four years teaching special education in Stuart, Florida, and the death of her first husband, Samuel Hardeman. Marion remarried and moved to Southern California where she taught special education, fourth grade and a learning disability class. In total, she was a teacher for 44 years, lastly working in the Tustin Unified School District.

She was a former volunteer for the Lake Riverside Estates for fifteen years and was a member of the California Retired Teachers Association and the National Retired Teachers Association.

She retired in June 1983, spending her remaining years in three different Southern California towns, doing some volunteer work for Lake Riverside Estate and two churches in the early days of her retirement. Later years were spent having kidney dialysis treatments three days a week.

Marion is survived by her loving children and their families, Lon Hardeman, Steve Peterman and Alan Peterman; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband John Edward Peterman in 2001 and her siblings, Kenneth Shaw and Nancy Murphy.
