Dr. Rissler taught mathematics at Frostburg State University for 30 years. Not only was he a dedicated classroom professor, but his office was always open to students and he allocated as much time as a student needed to understand a concept or assignment. He was a student advisor who provided sound scholastic counseling to his advisees. In addition, he was a faculty advisor to Sigma Zeta, a national honorary science and mathematics society and to its predecessor, Xi Xi.

Biographical Information:
Dr. Walter Joseph Rissler, mathematics professor, was born January 23, 1918 and died July 7, 2005 in Visalia, CA at the age of 87. He received military honors and burial in the National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. He taught at Frostburg State University from 1949 to 1979 and upon retirement was named professor emeritus of mathematics. He was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude who worked in residence life at Frostburg in 1967-68.
