A Message from USM Chancellor Jay Perman Regarding the FSU Presidential Search
Aug 21, 2025 9:00 AM
Chancellor Perman sent the following message to the FSU campus community regarding the FSU presidential search.
To the Frostburg State Community:
I’m delighted to share that the USM Board of Regents has approved the members of the Frostburg State University President Search and Screening Committee.
The membership reflects a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, alumni, board members, and shared governance representatives, together with civic and business leaders from the City of Frostburg and from greater Western Maryland. The members bring important knowledge and perspectives to the task of selecting a president who can build on Frostburg State’s record of engagement and excellence. I thank them for their eagerness to serve FSU in this way.
Regent Andy Smarick serves as committee chair and Regent Yvette Lewis as vice chair. Working with the executive search firm Isaacson, Miller, the group will engage with the Frostburg State community as it develops a short list of candidates for the presidency. That list will be forwarded to the Board of Regents and to me, and the Board will make the final selection.
On Wednesday, September 10, I’ll host a town hall to hear your thoughts on the priorities you want Frostburg State to pursue and the qualities you’d like to see in your next leader. You can find the town hall details on this President Search page once they are finalized, including access instructions should you need to join the conversation remotely. And if you'd like to submit your thoughts outside of the town hall, you can do so by emailing them to fsu-presidential-search@usmd.edu.
I look forward to the work ahead, and to the outcome we all want: A president who will navigate the challenges in your path, seize the many opportunities, and position FSU for growth, innovation, and impact.
Sincerely,
Jay A. Perman
Chancellor
