Senator Ben Cardin visited Frostburg State University campus on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, joined by his spouse Myrna and Delegate Beitzel.

President Ronald Nowachyzk, Dr. Boyce C. Williams, and Tim Malloy briefed the senator on two programs that are currently receiving federal funds.

Dr. Williams described the Maryland Accelerates program in depth to Senator Cardin and gave personalized testimonials given to her from the students who have recently graduated and been hired as fully certified teachers in the state of Maryland.

The Maryland Accelerates Program is currently in its third year and most recently recruited its last cohort of students. The third group of students were offered a third partner district and able to apply to teach in Washington County Public Schools.

The program has already allowed 17 new teachers to be hired into its district partners of Garrett and Frederick County Public Schools. By the end of Maryland Accelerates' fifth year the program will have impacted a total of 42 new teachers, 138 induction mentors and coaches, and 4,500 P-12 students in high-need and rural communities.
