The Frostburg State University Chapter of the Student Members of the American Chemical Society (FSU SMACS) won a Commendable Award from the American Chemical Society for its efforts in the 2018-2019 academic year. This award primarily recognizes the educational outreach of the students of FSU SMACS to local K-12 students through hands-on demonstrations as part of school field trips to FSU.
FSU SMACS is also involved on campus and in the community through the Majors Fair, the Student Health Fair, and Beautify the Burg. The Commendable Award is the second highest award given by the American Chemical Society to student chapters. FSU SMACS shares this distinction with 130 other chapters.
