chemistry labFrostburg State University's Chemistry Department was excited to host nearly 200 local high school chemistry students and teachers from Allegany, Fort Hill and Mountain Ridge High Schools and the Career Center over spring break for a day of hands-on activities.

During the event the high school students were introduced to Chemistry faculty, staff and current FSU students and had the opportunity to participate in three hands-on activities lead by Chemistry faculty. The group took part in an investigative acid and base chemistry lab, the creation of their own hand lotion and the science behind it and a spice extraction and analysis lab.

In addition, the students engaged in a question and answer session with a brief chemistry demonstration by current FSU students.  The FSU Chemistry Department values the partnership with the Allegany County Public School system and also extends thanks to the Western Maryland Local Section of the American Chemical Society for generously sponsoring lunch for the day's attendees.
