The Robert A. Norr Scholarship
Be like Bob - Discover YOUR Adventure Event & Scholarship
Established in 2012 in memory of Bob, the scholarship is dedicated to helping future students complete their college education. The scholarship is awarded to students who want to "be like Bob" by demonstrating their dedication to making a difference in people's lives.
Each year the goal is to raise $5,000 to invest in the endowment fund for the future and an additional $3,000 to provide an immediate scholarship for one student. Since the scholarship's founding in 2012 it has supported four students.
Who was Bob?
Bob Norr was an outstanding student, loved by all who knew him, who lost his life in a tragic kayaking accident in 2012. Bob had a passion for kayaking, and with his recreation training, wanted to introduce this passion to wounded warriors to help them discover a new world they could enjoy and benefit from.
Be like Bob - Discover Your Adventure Event
With the oversight, training and support of recreation faculty, students plan, organize, fundraise, manage and carry out the event. The day is filled with fun for the entire student body at Frostburg State University, alumni, and family and friends of Bob. People can participate in laser tag, water volley polo, indoor rock climbing, kickball games, and much more.
What can your contribution do?
- Help a Recreation and Parks Management student achieve his/her goal of a college degree
- Help support the efforts of students helping students
- Celebrate Bob Norr's life and inspire students to help others
- Assist students in discovering their personal passion and ways to make a positive impact on other's lives
Halloween Events
Each year the recreation program holds a costume judging competition in Cumberland and an event in Frostburg. These events give children a safe and exciting environment to participate in the Halloween spirit and have a fun time with peers. The program is a town favorite and brings a great number of children excited to participate in the costume contest as well as other fun activities! This is a great chance for students to give back to their communities and get into the spooky fun spirit.

Discover Allegany Outdoors
At Discover Allegany Outdoors students are given the chance to help show the community how wonderful the outdoors are! This event is open to individuals of all ages and offers events like hiking, fishing, games and so many more educational opportunities. Students will be given the opportunity to help with this event and share their love for the outdoors with others.
