Admission Process

Master of Science - Wildlife/Fisheries Biology

The MS in Wildlife/Fisheries Biology admits students each fall and spring. Admission is competitive and the deadline for application is March 1 for fall and November 1 for spring. Applications after the deadlines will be considered based on availability.

Interested candidates must follow the below procedures.

  1. Apply by completing the application online

  2. Official undergraduate and graduate transcripts can be requested within the application portal. FSU alumni do not need to send FSU transcripts as FSU Office of Graduate Admissions will have access to alumni transcripts. Official transcripts can also be requested independently and should be sent directly by the institution to gradservices@frostburg.edu or by mailing to:

    FSU Graduate Admissions
    101 Braddock Rd
    Frostburg, MD 21532

  3. Submission of official scores of the GRE (Graduate Record Admissions) Test can also be uploaded to the online application.

  4. Supplemental application materials include statement of purpose, resume, and three letters of reference, all of which can be uploaded/requested in the online application. Letters of reference must be original.

Letters of Reference: Applicants seeking admission to the program are asked to obtain three letters of reference, two of which must be academic.

Statement of Purpose: All applicants are to provide a typewritten statement (limited to three pages single spaced).

Resume: provide resume that reviews both educational and professional background.

  5. Students applying to the thesis track will also be asked to choose a Major Professor. In order to receive consideration for admission, students must contact faculty in the department of Biology and obtain agreement by a faculty member that will become the student’s major professor. When the major professor agrees to mentoring the student, the faculty designation should be indicated on the “major professor selection” portion of the application. Major professors should be chosen based on the alignment of the student and faculty research interests.

After all documents are received, your file will be sent to the department of Biology for admission consideration.
