What Can You Do With Your Political Science Degree?
Academically, the Department of Political Science offers a broad program through which students develop an understanding of the theory, institutions and processes associated with politics as practiced in the United States, in other nations, and among nations. Students are encouraged to learn not only about the substance of politics, but also to develop skills in writing, analysis, research, and quantitative methods.
We offer a broad array of courses covering US politics, comparative politics, international relations, and political theory. Our major boasts small class sizes, regular contact with professors, and prepares students for future employment in both the public and private sectors.
This strong academic grounding has allowed our majors to become elected officials legislative staff, and employees in an array of local, state, and federal positions. Our graduates have also pursued careers in law enforcement, the criminal justice systems, and the field of law; additionally, our graduates are also prepared for employment in mid-level management jobs in the private sector and have gone into banking, corporate management, educational consulting, small local businesses, as well as communications and tech companies. In addition, many of our graduates go on to graduate or law school.
