Oct 7: Weekly Update from President Nowaczyk
Oct 7, 2020 5:00 PM
As we approach the end of the eighth week of this semester, we have passed the halfway point. And while that’s an encouraging sign, we know that some students are struggling in one or more classes. Things are different this semester, and you may need different resources. I urge you reach out to your faculty to help, and also to take a look at the resources of the Academic Success Network. There is a wide variety of options for assistance. If you’re struggling but are not sure what kind of help you need, the people in CAAR, the Center for Academic Advising and Retention, can help point you in the right direction. Email them at caar@frostburg.edu or make an appointment with a CAAR counselor by booking an appointment online at bit.ly/caarfsu.
Wastewater Testing: As I have mentioned in some of my Coffee with the President sessions, we have begun weekly testing of wastewater coming from the campus and a good portion of the neighborhood surrounding it. This program, contracted with Microbac, looks for the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen, which is an indication of the presence of the COVID-19 virus. While we are still developing a baseline measurement, we anticipate this will be particularly helpful to differentiate between illnesses if we experience a flu outbreak with similar symptoms to COVID. This is an addition to the numerous COVID-19 indicators the University is monitoring to determine the raising or lowering of our institutional response levels.
Uploading COVID Results: Speaking of monitoring COVID-19 indicators, if you are tested at an outside facility for any reason, I encourage you to upload your results to the COVID Check-in site. This also helps us monitor our situation.Log in and click on “My COVID19 Tests” in the menu, then Upload Test Results. It will accept a number of file options, including screen shots. That information will then be reviewed for validation by the Brady Health Center.
