NOVEMBER: Diabetes Awareness Month
Here are astonishing numbers about Diabetes in Maryland:
- Nearly 50 percent of the adult population in Maryland have diabetes or prediabetes--and the number is growing.
- Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death in our State.
But the good news is that diabetes is generally preventable, and for those with the disease, it can be managed.
In this newsletter, you will find a quiz to determine if you are at risk for prediabetes. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, you will find webinars to support your health and help you manage the disease. And during the rest of November, we will present opportunities to learn more about Diabetes prevention and management.
Pre-Diabetes: Know Your Risk of Developing Diabetes
If you have not been diagnosed with diabetes, you may have pre-diabetes and not even know it. Having prediabetes means your blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. Prediabetes can lead to heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes, the most common form of diabetes. Prediabetes can often be reversed.
