FSU Celebrates All Things Frostburg With Homecoming Oct. 25-28

Frostburg State University welcomes students and graduates from all generations to celebrate Homecoming 2018. From Thursday, Oct. 25, to Sunday, Oct. 28, FSU will host many events that will showcase everyone’s school pride, including a Pep Rally, sports, a Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, reunions and the Homecoming dance.

The celebration kicks off on Thursday with an invitation-only Retired Employee Luncheon in the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall of the Lane University Center at noon. Later that evening, FSU’s field hockey team will play York College at 6 p.m. in Bobcat Stadium. Lastly, Bobcats will get to show their school pride at the Pep Rally in the Main Arena of the Cordts Physical Education Center at 7 p.m., where the Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned.

Friday morning, students are welcome to attend “Grow,” a campus-wide Career Expo featuring alumni speakers, from 9 a.m. to noon. Next, the Bobcat Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner starts at 5 p.m. in Lane Manicur Hall; this event is reservation only. Then, a volleyball game against Salisbury University will be held in the Main Arena of the Cordts PE Center at 6 p.m. Also, from 7 to 9 p.m., visit the Stephanie Ann Roper Gallery in the Fine Arts building for the opening reception of the exhibit, “In the Shadows and Under the Bed.” Illustrators Greg Orfanos and David Ferreira will showcase their creative work in mythology and literature.

Saturday is packed with many activities and celebrations throughout the day and evening. At 9 a.m., the Women’s Tennis Locker Room in the Cordts PE Center will be dedicated. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., an Alumni Welcome Center will be set up in the Lane Center’s Lobby. Here, refreshments, games and activities for kids will be provided. This is also a chance for alumni to update their contact information, leave notes for fellow alumni and enter to win prizes.

From 10 a.m. to noon the reservation-only Jim Anderson Memorial Baseball Brunch will take place in Lane Manicur Hall. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children. Tailgating at Bobcat Stadium starts at 10:30 a.m. The cost is $10 per space and parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. For the complete rules and regulations, visit the Homecoming web site.

In the same day, there will be a Library Employee Reception from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for former student employees and library staff; reservations are required. At 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. a full-dome movie, “Dynamic Earth,” will play in the Gira Center for Communications and Information Technology’s Multimedia Learning Center. A tour of the campus starts in the upper lobby of the Lane Center at 11 a.m. as well. Then at 11:30 a.m., the invitation-only Golden Anniversary Reunion Celebrating the Class of 1968 and Years Before will be held in Gira Center room 397.

Later that day, an Accounting Alumni Reception will be held at noon in the Lane Atkinson Room (232). The kickoff to the football game against Southern Virginia University will be at 1 p.m. in Bobcat Stadium; tickets are $5 for adults and free for children 17 and younger and FSU students, faculty and staff with FSU ID. Frostburg’s volleyball team will play Clarkson University at 1 p.m. and SUNY Geneseo at 5 p.m., both in the Cordts Main Arena.

From 3:30 to 5 p.m. Phi Beta Sigma will celebrate its 40th anniversary in the Gira Center with the cocktail hour in the first-floor lobby and the formal program in room 397; reservations are required. The Student Government Association will have a reunion in the South Addition of the Lane Center from 5 to 7 p.m., while a Leadership Donor Reception will occur at 5:30 p.m. in Lane Manicur Hall. Both of these events are by invitation only. Closing the night, FSU students will celebrate at 11 p.m. in Lane Manicur Hall with the Homecoming Dance. Tickets are $3 for students and $10 for their guests.

Sunday is the final day of the Homecoming events. An Alumni Association Board of Directors meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Gira Center room 397. All alumni are welcome with advance reservation. A men’s alumni basketball game starts at 10 a.m. in the Cordts Main Arena, followed by a women’s alumni basketball game at noon. Lastly, SGA will hold a “Big Event” at noon to clean up the streets of Frostburg. Everyone is invited to meet in the Lane Center’s lobby to participate.
