Frostburg State University’s associate professor and chair of the Nursing Department, Dr. Kara Platt, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, was recently announced as one of the 2024 Leading Women Under 40 by The Daily Record. Those on this year’s list were chosen by previous winners and the publication for the notable achievements they have made thus far in their respective careers.
“Receiving this recognition is an extraordinary honor,” said Platt. “It is not just a personal celebration, but a tribute to my supportive family, colleagues and friends who have always cheered me on.”
Platt began her career as a labor and delivery nurse and joined the FSU team in 2009 at the inception of the nursing department. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Shenandoah University, her master’s in health services leadership and management in nursing and a teaching certificate in nursing from the University of Maryland, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.
Platt teaches nursing courses both online and in-person at the undergraduate and graduate levels and healthcare leadership courses in FSU’s MBA program. She collaborates with new schools of nursing internationally to improve the healthcare workforce and nursing profession worldwide. Additionally, she is the vice president of CASA of Western Maryland and serves on committees at UPMC Western Maryland.
“This year’s Leading Women are innovative leaders who don’t miss a beat. They juggle demanding careers, families, personal health and well-being and community services, just to name a few priorities,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, managing director of The Daily Record/Bridge Tower Media.
The 2024 honorees, who were selected because of their professional experience, community involvement and their commitment to inspiring change, will be recognized at an awards celebration on Aug. 21 at Gertrude’s Restaurant at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Winners will also be spotlighted in a special magazine insert in the Aug. 22 edition.
