“I am honored and filled with gratitude to have had the amazing opportunity to share my student film, ‘Culture in Choreo,’ in the same space as several other talented local filmmakers,” said Childs. Her documentary short explores the importance of how Asian cultures influence our own through the art of dance. This spring Childs plans to study abroad in South Korea before graduating and pursuing a career as a video editor.
“This was an incredible experience that immersed me more into the local creative community,” recalls Childs. “I hope to see this festival thrive for years to come and bring more opportunity for others who share this passion!”
Glisan directed a film about a guitar maker/repairman named Jason Ingrodi that highlighted Ingrodi’s craftsmanship and guitar-making process. “The Mountain Maryland Film Festival was a really great opportunity for me as a young filmmaker, and I’m excited to see what’s to come of it in the future.” Glisan continued, “My next step is to finish my last semester at FSU and hopefully move onto making more stuff. I had a lot of fun making this short documentary and l’d love to try making something again in this format.”
Childs and Glisan finished as honorary mentions while Hite placed third at the festival. “I am thrilled to have been a part of the inaugural Mountain Maryland Film Festival. This event has room to grow and will continue to be an inspiring, quintessential part of Cumberland’s revitalization,” said Hite. “I look forward to seeing how the festival develops throughout the coming years and hope to be a part of that evolution.”
Hite’s short film, “Megan Jean’s Secret Family,” had been in the works for an entire year before the festival’s request for submissions, and while thrilled to get a top-three finish, she hopes to take home silver or gold next time. “Bronze looks good on me. However, I will probably skip over silver in case I’m secretly a vampire and look forward to trying on gold.”
Hite’s next step is to work on her film for next year’s film festival. “Although I’m not sure exactly what will be my next topic, I have an endless stream of ideas weighing down the Notes app on my phone. Until then, I plan to finish my degree in emerging media, with a focus in video production, and will look for other opportunities to participate in video productions locally and elsewhere.”
