This collaboration will spearhead the development of an innovative telehealth platform aimed at transforming gastrointestinal (GI) care through cutting-edge artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) technologies. The platform will enable doctors to deliver evidence-based medicine and advanced testing to underserved rural communities and will address the growing demand for GI care while empowering patients to better understand and manage their health.
“USGI AI is honored to receive such a prestigious grant,” said Dr. Amit Sachdev. “We look forward to partnering with Frostburg State University’s renowned Computer Science Department and using AI/ML technology to revolutionize GI care across the United States and abroad.”
Yuechen Chen, an assistant professor in FSU’s CSIT Department, highlighted the project’s impact on the University and the region. “This project will bring better medical services to our community and create job and internship opportunities for students at Frostburg State University. It’s an incredible opportunity for our students to articulate their knowledge and contribute to an innovative project in Western Maryland.”
The collaboration also draws on FSU’s commitment to fostering innovation through initiatives like the Bobcat Innovation Launch Pad, which supports creative problem-solving and entrepreneurship among students and faculty. Projects like this telehealth platform underscore the University’s role as a hub for driving transformative technologies in the region.
Ryan Kentrus, a lecturer in FSU’s Department of Management, shared his excitement. “We are very excited to receive the MIPS grant. This grant will catalyze the development of technology that redefines how doctors and patients approach gastrointestinal care. The collaboration between USGI AI and Frostburg State University will bridge critical gaps in rural healthcare access, enhance GI care and improve patient outcomes.”
This partnership exemplifies FSU’s dedication to leveraging its academic and research expertise to solve real-world problems. The project addresses critical challenges in healthcare and enhances educational opportunities for students by integrating them into impactful, state-of-the-art initiatives. It will also extend and enhance FSU’s efforts to grow the region’s economy through innovative pathways, reinforcing its role as a key driver of regional development and economic revitalization.
