clara tavarezFSU student, Clara Tavarez, was recently notified that she was admitted into the University of Maryland Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, joining an elite group of students selected for their academic success and determination in pursuit of a Ph.D. degree.

“I’m very grateful that I’ve been accepted into the McNair Scholars Program,” said Tavarez. “This is a huge step in furthering my education and skills that will open so many doors. This program will give me opportunities that I would’ve struggled to get if I hadn’t.”

Only about 4,500 students across the U.S. are selected for participation in these programs. Participants like Tavarez will receive the benefits of academic counseling and mentoring, a paid summer research internship, advanced research and writing seminars, assistance with garnering financial assistance for graduate school, and more.

Tavarez is happy she will get to be part of a program with other students that have similar goals of attaining a Ph.D. in fields they are passionate about. “I’m also very excited for the opportunity to get to be able to do research over the summer at the University of Maryland.” She has chosen to conduct her research in Chemistry, which according to her is a subject she loves.
