The Frostburg State University chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi inducted 32 new members during a ceremony held on March 8 in the Gira Center for Communication and Information Technology.
New members initiated into the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines include 11 undergraduate students, 19 graduate students and two faculty members.
Undergraduate students installed into Phi Kappa Phi are Lauryn Bishoff, Graham Dahle, Maria Eckard, Emilia Germain, Vince Halcomb, Jesse Ketterman, Brady McKinley, Karleigh O’Donnell, Keegan Runge, Grace Sarver and Abigayle Spangler.
Graduate inductees are Shelby Beitzel, Phillip Border, Francis Carden, Chelsea Carr, Amber Conway, Joseph Curtis, Kimberly Dominesey, Peter Hartnett, Genelle Hatcher, Jennifer Heffner, Gianna Jones, Judith Kinnie, Haley Massino, Shannon Miller, Vernelle Mitchell-Hawkins, Alexandra Pentikis, Nathan Rockwell, Naeemah Staggs and D’Ante Wanzer.
Dr. Seniz Celimi-Aksoy, assistant professor in the Department of Educational Professions, and Dr. Jodi Welsch, professor in the Department of Educational Professions, were both inducted as faculty initiates.
“We are thrilled to have such a large group of incoming members this spring. These students and faculty have demonstrated superior scholarly excellence, and we welcome them to the Frostburg State University Phi Kappa Phi chapter,” said FSU chapter president Dr. Linda Steele.
These honorees are among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
