The Daily Record has announced the 2025 Health Care Heroes, and Frostburg State University’s director of the Student Health Center, Christina Burke-Poland, is among the list of individuals and organizations being recognized for the impact they are making on health care within Maryland.
“I am truly honored and thrilled to be nominated and selected as a 2025 Health Care Hero with The Daily Record,” said Burke-Poland. “I’m proud to help make an impact in the quality of healthcare in our community and on the FSU campus. I work with a wonderful team in the health center, and we strive to provide the best care to our students.”
Burke-Poland was nominated for recognition in the Community Outreach/Education Hero category by former FSU vice president for Student Affairs, Dr. Artie Travis, for the exceptional influence she has in community health and wellness and for elevating the standard of care on campus. “Whether coordinating flu vaccine clinics, raising awareness on women’s health issues or responding swiftly and compassionately during emergencies, Ms. Burke-Poland has been a steady, trusted presence at the forefront of student and community care,” said Travis.
“The 2025 Health Care Heroes go above and beyond to improve the quality of health care in Maryland. They work tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of others and demonstrate strong empathy, compassion and listening skills,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, managing director of BridgeTower Media/The Daily Record. “The accomplishments of this year’s honorees are incredibly noteworthy, and we at The Daily Record are honored to celebrate these outstanding health care leaders.”
Burke-Poland along with the other honorees will be recognized in June during an online video celebration.
