Frostburg State University’s Associate Director for Residential Education, Dr. Katie Weir ‘14/D’23, was among the 48 honorees named 2025 Leading Women Under 40 by The Daily Record. Those on this year’s list were chosen by previous winners and the publication for the notable achievements they have made thus far in their respective careers.
“I’m honored and excited to be named to the Leading Women Under 40 list,” said Weir. “I’m especially grateful to Dr. Travis for nominating me and to the wonderful colleagues I have the privilege of working with at FSU.”
Weir, an alum of Frostburg, joined the FSU team in 2018 as an assistant director for Residence Life. In her current role as the University’s Associate Director for Residential Education, she is responsible for overseeing educational and community building efforts in the residence halls, supervising graduate and undergraduate hall staff members and managing residential student conduct concerns.
She earned her Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2014 with a double major in political science and history and her Doctor of Education in health and natural sciences in 2023 with a major in education, leadership and policy studies.
Weir was nominated for The Daily Record award by retired Vice President for Student Affairs at FSU, Dr. Artie Travis. “It was my distinct honor to nominate Dr. Weir for this recognition. I had the privilege of witnessing her leadership up close during my time at Frostburg State,” said Travis, who also nominated FSU alumna Ariyana Ward ’23.
Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, managing director of The Daily Record/Bridge Tower Media, says that the 2025 Leading Women are accomplished up-and-coming leaders who juggle family commitments, demanding careers, community service, education, mentoring and many other priorities. “They work hard and are committed to making a difference and inspiring change in the community. These women are making a remarkable impact at a young age and we at The Daily Record are pleased to celebrate their accomplishments and look forward to their future achievements.”
The 2025 honorees, who were selected because of their professional experience, community involvement and their commitment to inspiring change, will be recognized at an awards celebration on Aug. 20 at Gertrude’s Restaurant at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Winners will also be profiled in a special magazine insert in the Aug. 21 issue of The Daily Record.
