Frostburg State University’s Graduate Athletic Training Program has been granted 10 years of continuing accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), the maximum period awarded for reaccreditation. The recognition ensures the program’s commitment to excellence in preparing students for successful careers in athletic training and allied health professions.

Dr. Jaqueline Durst, interim chair and associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Recreation and Parks Management and Program Director for Athletic Training, shared the news with campus colleagues while expressing gratitude for their support throughout the process.

Dr. Yum Nguyen, interim assistant dean of the College of Education, Behavioral and Health Professions, echoed those congratulatory sentiments. “This is a monumental milestone that reflects the unwavering dedication, expertise and collaborative spirit that defines Durst's program. Under her outstanding leadership, and with the tireless efforts of the entire team, she’s not only met but exceeded the rigorous standards set forth by the CAATE.”

The CAATE reaccreditation decision follows an extensive self-study and review process which has proven that Frostburg State’s program meets rigorous national standards for quality and professional education. The next comprehensive review is scheduled for the 2034-2035 academic year.

The 2-year Professional Athletic Graduate Training Program officially began in the Summer of 2022, building on decades of tradition and academic excellence. FSU also launched its five-year Combined EXSS/ MSAT program in the Fall of 2019, allowing students to earn their bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

FSU has maintained the Athletic Training Program for 47 years. The program was initially accredited in 2004 by CAATE, and since then it has grown to serve as a leader in sports medicine and the athletic training community.

The 10-year reaccreditation highlights Frostburg’s leadership in athletic training education and its continued dedication to developing compassionate, skilled and innovative healthcare professionals.

The CAATE serves the public and profession by establishing and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards that facilitate quality outcomes, continuous improvement, innovation and diversity to enhance athletic training education.
