Dr. Jamil Abdo and Dr. Tariq Masood, faculty members in the Department of Engineering and Sustainable Technology at Frostburg State University, have announced the publication of their new book, “Protection of Electrical Power Distribution Systems: Smart Grid, Microgrid, AI and Cybersecurity,” released by Wiley-IEEE Press. Offering cutting-edge insights and forward-looking solutions, the book is positioned to make a substantial impact on the evolving field of electrical power distribution systems.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Wiley, the IEEE Press editorial board members and the production team,” the pair said. “Their unwavering support and dedication have been instrumental in making this project a resounding success. We could not have done it without them.”
The collaboration between Wiley and IEEE Press is widely recognized for producing high-quality technical books that shape global engineering knowledge, strengthen educational foundations and advance thought leadership. Wiley is also a signatory to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Publishers Compact, underscoring its commitment to sustainable and equitable knowledge dissemination.
The new book provides comprehensive coverage of essential and emerging topics in electrical power system protection, including: key differences between restricted and unrestricted protection, along with criteria for establishing optimal protection zone boundaries; modern technologies such as digital relays and intelligent electronic devices; various forms of busbar protection and the major types of faults that impact busbar systems; and future-focused trends in the field.
The book is available for purchase on Wiley’s website. Additionally, the book has been indexed and released by the prestigious MIT Press/Bookstore. “This institution, renowned as one of the top-ranked university in the world, ensures it is readily accessible to MIT faculty, students and the wider academic community,” said Masood. “This accessibility empowers scholars and learners alike, fostering knowledge and innovation.”
